Mallorca has already opened the door to taking applications for tourism rental licenses for multifamily dwellings on the island. This means that the property owners of said properties can access a route to commercialising their properties for holiday lets for the first time in multifamily dwellings, however certain requirements must be met. To legally rent a multifamily dwelling to tourists you need to have the area in mind established by the Govern de les Illes Balears, where it is determined in which areas it is permitted to rent. Once this information is known, you must carry out a request to purchase spaces, in which the municipal certificate and the certificate of occupancy must be shown of the property in question to the Consorcio de la bolsa de plazas of the Conselleria de Turismo.
Once said request for the purchase of places and direct debit of payments is obtained, the Consortium will establish the price to be paid in each of the touristic commercialisations of the properties. In turn, the Responsible Declaration of Initiation of Tourist Activity (DRIAT) must be carried out together with the modernization plan.
Apart from the previously mentioned requirements, the applicant must provide their National Document of Identification (DNI), the certificate of citizenship with a frequency of at least 2 months per year on it and the documentation provided by the community of neighbours from the multifamily dwelling which allows the touristic commercialization.
Any applicant that meets the requirements that the Govern de les Illes Balears has filed since the beginning of August 2018 and follows the protocol to obtain the holiday rental license may legally rent their multi-family dwelling to tourists.
